Dare to struggle, dare to win!

This badge was produced by Resistance, an Australian socialist youth organisation, in support of the trade union movement and workers’ rights. It features the Eureka flag and a slogan originally taken up by the Builders’ Labourers Federation.

The donor of this badge, John Ellis, writes:

I purchased this badge recently at a rally in Geelong to protest the Gillard Government’s plans to send refugees to Malaysia. The rally was organised by Grade 9 students with the support of Socialist Alliance Geelong. It is very heartening to see young people taking over the organising of protest actions. At my stage in life, and after many years of activism, I appreciate their enthusiasm and initiative and am pleased to see there are young people to carry on with the battle to preserve issues of social justice.

Socialist Alliance most expresses my ideals as a socialist and a supporter of democracy. This badge, which I bought from their stall, incorporates my support for the union movement and my sorrow when I see workers being exploited. The union movement struggled to achieve an equitable share of resources, but now global corporations are whittling these advances away. This badge signifies a spirit of optimism.
